Deities

So Nadia has been posting lots of drawings of interesting Gods & Goddesses lately, and I thought she (or someone else!) might like to try their hand at some deities I’ve dreamed up.

The following are taken from my notes on my ongoing Dragon Story (Link HERE if you want to read the whole thing for some crazy reason.) At some point I might draw these myself, but I haven’t gotten to it yet. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

There are 8 deities in the pantheon of Damorean Gods.

4 govern the Elements and 4 govern the spirits.

Elements

Water – depicted most often as part woman, part fish, with scales or fins.

Air – depicted as a bird, often an eagle, or occasionally a dragon.

Fire – depicted as a woman ablaze.

Earth – depicted as a dark-skinned, broad-chested man.

Spirits

Serenity – depicted as a priestess or monk, dressed in a white robe with no visible face.

Chaos – depicted as a monkey, lord of tricksters, wearing a golden crown.

Life – drawn as a woman surrounded by plants, or sometimes as a solitary tree.

Death – A humanoid figure in a black robe, but with features like a serpent.

{There are also a number of divine servants, immortal or simply long-lived creatures who do the bidding of the gods. It is these creatures who most often interact with common humans.

Magic of Healing is endowed by the goddess of Life, while more destructive magic is provided by Chaos and fused with one more of the Elemental gods. Prescient magic comes from Serenity, and occasionally a blending of all Spirit gods.

Exceptionally blessed (or cursed) individuals may master more than one sort of magic; most have only one. The blessing of magic is given at birth, though sometimes not evident until much later.}

    I am more into shamens and priests/monks. The healing power of most people is capricious and unreliable. However those who study the plants have the ability to bring out the healing power of the body.

    It is strange that Chinese have a kitchen god who every year go to the council of gods and tell them how the people have treated him. (Chinese can be gluttons for food…) There are a lot of mischievious spirits in the Chinese folklore similar at times to the Irish leprechaun.
